Just because you have tendon pain does not mean you have Tendinitis!
Tendon pain has three causes:
1) Tendinitis is inflammation of the tendon and is probably the least common cause of tendon pain. It is caused by overuse. Typically tendinitis will get worse with continued activity.
2) Tendinosis is actually the most common cause for tendon pain. It is a true degenerative condition where the tendon begins to break down. Typically, Tendinosis is painful with initial activity, get better with use, then get painful with excessive use.
3) Tendon tear is when the tendon actually rips. Typically a tear results in tendon pain every time that muscle contracts. Tears almost always happen in a tendon that already had Tendinosis. It is virtually impossible to tear a healthy tendon without significant trauma.
Each of these problems require a different treatment that is specific to the problem.
